I absolutely loved having a store. There I said it. It’s taken me a long time to admit that again. I have had shops on and off since 1999. The last one was pretty awesome but I just wasn’t happy in the location. Had not one thing to do with anything but feeling like my time there was done. It was such a great time when it was going great. I met the most incredible customers and consignors many of who became good friends. I just needed a new place where I could breathe and focus on MY art and MY community and not the rest of the crazy world. I needed to find a place I could just breathe.
Well I found it.
Our new home is located in Cleveland Wisconsin. It’s a teeny tiny community located smack dab in the center of Manitowoc and Sheboygan about a mile from the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. It’s funny because I’ve always felt a pull toward Cleveland and now I know why. It’s our home. We are so close to family and kind of in the country but kind of close to everything at the same time. We have enough land to build and expand the lush gardens and it makes me giddy to dream of Spring. After a year I am fully happy and fully ready to share it all again with my friends.
The property was a former doctors home. He and his large family built the house that is attached to an addition that housed his clinic. That area now serves as my studio. It has a small kitchen, bathroom and 4 large rooms that each serve a function. The main studio
A little room set up with merchandise including my current jewelry and art inventory, a cozy living room for conversation and crocheting (or anything else that can be created in a living room comfy place) and my office that also serves as sleeping area for overnight parties. There are a total of 6 sleeping spots that I can offer for workshops and events where people will be traveling a distance and need a place to stay. It’s not fancy but it’s free! I want the studio to be a place where people with similar lives that center around creativity feel at home. You can come for a few minutes to shop or come for hours to just play.
Once a month I will host a Saturday workshop that will run 9-5. This will be a full day lead by me or one of my talented friends. The cost will be $65 for these workshops. A supply list will be given for classes such as old book journals, soldered pendant jewelry, and collage painting. If I get enough interest I will also host Thursday evening classes for adults only. Wednesdays in the summer from 10-12 will be kids 8-16 summer camp days. All of the classes and workshops will require registration and those forms along with the complete class lists will be available May 1.
The little store will be a lot like the store was just on a MUCH smaller scale. I will have fun inexpensive vintage goodies, crazy components and ephemera for assemblage and collage, a great selection of one of a kind jewelry, prints and original creations, and up cycled vintage with the Kim flair. Because gardening has become such an important part of my life I will also have some seasonal flowers and small plants. It won’t be fancy but it will be fun.
I will not be putting a big flashy sign but you will know you found the right place when you see Daisy the crazy sheep in the front yard. The open sign will be in front of the pine tree by the garage and you can park in the parking lot to the right. The studio entrance will be off the parking lot. This will all make sense when you get here I promise. I am not advertising the opening anywhere because while I welcome anyone to visit I really hope to keep the integrity of being mindful and accommodating to those who really enjoy the creative lifestyle…those who live with art either created by our own hands or others. It will be a place for people who aren’t excited about malls but who get excited at the thought of a great thrift store. People who want to grow their own food, cook a fantastic meal, take long walks and observe really take in the sights and sounds, people who are not afraid to tackle projects and get dirty. A place for artists and collectors and DIYers and lovers of life. Ahhhhhhh.
So I’m hoping to see some of the faces I grew to love at Persimmons in Manitowoc and maybe a few more! I’m so excited to move to this next adventure and to share our little piece of paradise with you!
